ED Update β€” June 2026 (Mid-Month)

June 2026 Β· Bill

Oral Surgery

There are still significant gaps in coverage. If you have a patient that does not require CritiCall, patients can be advised to present to tertiary care centres or to call any local surgeon for outpatient follow-up (list of names is available in the ER).

The Cambridge group has recently reached out and stated they won't accept referrals in general from WRHN unless a surgeon has been reached and accepted the referral. The COS office is aware of the coverage gaps and working on a solution β€” but there continues to be no reliable process in place.

Addictions Psych

Dr Bedi is away until June 22nd β€” FYI.

Stroke Coverage

FYI β€” Dr Teleg will take night coverage from time to time. First nights on call are June 18th and 19th.

eReferral Process

Gentle reminder that the "Provider Letter" is the only documentation type that gets flagged by the clerks to send out as an e-referral. If you create an "ED Note Physician" or "ED Consult/Handoff Note", these will not get faxed to the consultants. Please refer to Colin's original email for the exact workflow if there are questions.

Rabies PEP

As expected, we are beginning to see an increase in potential rabies exposure cases, including exposures involving bats. Many of these individuals may present to the local emergency department for assessment. Resources to support risk assessments:

Physician Wellness Retreat

Attached is a poster for the hospital-sponsored wellness retreat that will be offered on September 21st.
