We may be reopening the HUEP clinic in evenings again to create some extra space to see patients over the summer. If it's open, you can use the space to reassess your patients.
Telestroke
The Regional team has requested follow-up to remind ED Physicians to call Telestroke (and not the HHS Stroke Physicians directly). Also, it's important to call Telestroke while the patient is going to CT, and not once imaging is interpreted by the radiologist.
Ebola / Quarantine Countries
In the unlikely event that a patient arrives in ED who is from a quarantine country, notify IPAC (Kevin Stinson) and/or Dr. Ciccotelli immediately and we will work to coordinate next steps. After hours, go through After Hours Admin and they will contact him 24/7.
Most of the few people coming to Canada from these countries are not anywhere close to the affected area. IPAC will be working closely with public health to risk-stratify any possible situation, and planning how to proceed. Most patients, if allowed into Canada at all, are on a federally mandated quarantine and PH will already be involved. See attached memo.

Urea in Kids
FYI — the peds group would still like ureas ordered when assessing kids as part of a renal function workup. The peds group has said the Choosing Wisely guidelines recommending against urea testing in general do not apply to kids. Peds feels urea is still valuable in evaluating hydration status / renal function in kids.
eReferrals
Gentle reminder that only the "Provider Letter" works for the eReferral process.
- The referral needs to be placed less than 72 hours after the initial ED assessment. Outside of this window you will need to speak with a clerical staff to arrange submission of any late referrals.
- It will not work if you are working off-service, either — it's an ED-only process.
